January Tutorial Roundup

round upEvery once in a while I find tutorials online that I bookmark as learn this later, as I find a different or faster method of accomplishing things. This week I will focus on four tutorials that I find very useful.

Create your own vector portrait.

If you are new to photoshop this tutorial will help you learn how to give a vector “look” to a photo, photoshop is actually a pixel by pixel editor and no true vectors are ever produced. After this tutorial if you would like to convert it into a true vector image, and have a working copy of Illustrator you may do so by opening it in photoshop and using “live trace”.You can find a Tutorial for it here.

phpadminCreate a Photo Admin Site Using PHP and jQuery

Have you ever had a project that required the upload of pictures from its users? This tutorial is very simple and will show you how to get started and perhaps get you  interested into the very useful world of PHP.

Quizilla Servers Before SaleHow to Setup a Dedicated Web Server for Free

If you have a old machine sitting around at home you can set  it up as a testing platform for web development instead of having it temporarily piggy-back on your own web server. I wouldn’t actually suggest hosting a site on this machine unless your website is a only a couple of Kb/s or you have fiber optic speeds for upload.

daveynin thingA website checklist. 20 things to check before going live.

Never leave the home without your wallet or keys, and never leave your website project as finished without following this 20 point checklist.

pinkpantherCreate a Furious Pink Panther Poster

This last one is just plain fun and might get you into digital painting if you have regular painting skills (or not) and a  Wacom tablet handy.
